AEI Highlights
AEI and the Ornamental Metal Institute of New York are co-sponsoring a 2-day
seminar in New York City that will spotlight
important aspects of modern curtainwalls. Curtainwalls are an essential element of modern building
design as they not only represent the first line of defense against most
natural hazards (e.g. wind, fire, rain, temperature, light, shade), but also
play a significant role in the building's security considerations.
World-renowned experts in the curtainwall field
will present case studies and discussions on curtainwall
history and evolution, anatomy, metal and non-metal based materials, and
design methodologies and tools for different demands on curtainwalls.
Wednesday, January 28, 2004 (12 Noon - 1 pm
Eastern Time) Just how dangerous is mold to our indoor environment? This
one-hour live telephone/web seminar sponsored by AEI will separate fact from
fiction regarding mold and its correct place within the growing field of
indoor air quality. Richard M. Silberman of Healthy
Buildings International, Inc. will cover the scientific, medical, managerial,
and regulatory aspects of mold.

Integration Solutions, was held in Austin, TX, on September 17-20.
The conference highlighted significant advances in building innovation, design,
and construction, and brought together the diverse groups concerned with the
building process.

AEI Student Spotlight:
On Friday, September 19, AEI held a competition for students as part of its
2003 conference, which was held this year at the University of Texas at Austin. Several dozen
students from different schools came together to work in teams and put their
imaginations to the test. The competition, organized by Dr. Katherine Liapi of the University of Texas at Austin, was geared towards
the design and construction of a scale model of a 3D structure.
Dear fellow AEI student members,
First, I would like to congratulate our newest officers who took over at the
beginning of January. They are Amir Kukic from the University of Missouri-Rolla (President),
Salomon Eljach from the University of Miami (Vice-President),
and Cindy Mulnik from the University of
Missouri-Rolla (Secretary).
The AEI student chapter at the University of Miami is looking forward
to another successful year. AEI is at a stage where we are rebuilding our
organization. With a new group of executive officers, AEI has been able to
recruit a good group of freshmen and sophomore members to keep our
organization strong.
Announcements:
