First AE Exam Offered
The first architectural engineering principles and practices (or PE) exam was offered in April, 2003 to 77 individuals. The pass rate for the exam was 67% which is within the average range for NCEES' PE exams.

Security under Extraordinary Incidents
In Spring 2003, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) published, "Risk Management Guidance for Health, Safety, and Environmental Security under Extraordinary Incidents." The report describes a new risk management strategy for building owners to use in determining their level of risk in regard to extraordinary incidents. Role of Building Facades in Preventing Progressive Collapse of Structures

The event when a localized failure in a structure progresses to cause a disproportionately large failure is commonly known as progressive collapse (ASCE 2002). Over the years, progressive collapse mitigation measures have focused exclusively on load-bearing (structural) components in the building. Building facades, as a non-structural component were always assumed to have no contribution during a progressive collapse event. This article will examine the possible role of façade systems during a building progressive collapse event.
